What are the Entry Requirements?

​

Though there are currently no statutory requirements, the industry requirement is for mediators to hold a 3-year tertiary qualification and a valid professional certification ('accreditation'). In the absence of a 3-year qualification, you can apply for professional certification based on sufficient experience in a related field.

​

While a background in Law or the Social Sciences are common among mediators, the industry is not restrictive and any other 3-year tertiary qualification is sufficient for professional certification with a membership organisation.

​

Entry Requirements for the 64h/80h Family Law Mediation courses:

​

1.   Minimum Tertiary Qualification(s):

​

(a)  3-Year Tertiary qualification at NQF level 5, or

(b)  Currently enrolled for a 3-year Tertiary qualification at NQF level 5, or​

(c) Appropriate experience (contact us to discuss exemptions)

​

2.   Laptop / Tablet / Smart TV / Smartphone

 

3.   Internet connection

  • Slow / expensive internet? We'll courier a flashdrive with the training videos and textbook to your door

  • No entry requirements apply to short courses

Course Accreditations

 

Courses are accredited in SA & Internationally by the ADR International Register, and in SA by the South African Association of Mediators (SAAM) as well as the National Accreditation Board of Family Mediators (NABFAM).

The National Accreditation Board for Family Mediators (NABFAM) emerged in 2010 from the need for a national accrediting body that promotes mediation and ethical standards and integrity of practicing family mediators in SA, and which is also aimed at promoting transformation in the industry.

​

​

 

The South African Association of Mediators (SAAM) is a non-profit governing body, established in 1988. It is a regulatory body for its members and is involved in mediation through education and training.

​

SAAM sets standards and procedures for mediators across a number of disciplines within the mediation industry and presents workshops and masterclasses via webinars.

​

The ADR International Register administrates an international standard in the Alternative Dispute Resolution industries. They are based in the Netherlands and have been operational in SA since 2016 from their Randburg branch.

​

The organisation has provided over 10,000 certifications to professionals across a range of fields and is itself ISO 9001 certified (audited by Lloyds).

​

​

 

The South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP) is the regulatory body entrusted to set and maintain standards of education and practice of social service professionals in South Africa.

​

It is an autonomous, financially independent, statutory body, established through §2 of the Social Service Professionals Act 110 of 1978.

​
